Purchase a renewal packet. The cost is $13 as of 2011, and the packet contains all the information and forms you need to begin the renewal process. Read the information in the packet about how to obtain the required documentation.
Provide verification of employment or volunteer experience with young children. Include any volunteering or employment in a daycare center, as a babysitter, playground leader, Sunday school teacher, summer-camp counselor, playground supervisor, Cub or Boy Scout leader or volunteer in a before- or after-school program. Request a signed and dated letter of proof of employment or proof of volunteer work from your employer or volunteer coordinator. Obtain a letter of recommendation from an early childhood education professional and provide information about a current membership in a local or national early childhood organization.
Complete at least 4.5 hours of continuing-education units in early childhood development or education. Associates have up to six months to complete the coursework. Information and start dates on available classes can be obtained by logging on to CDAClass.org.
Apply for the CDA renewal after completing all the requirements. Apply up to 90 days before your credential expiration date. The information will be reviewed and a CDA Renewal Credential will be mailed to you, if the information is complete. If the information is incomplete, you will be notified and given a chance to correct the problem.
