How to Dance & Sing at the Same Time

Dancing and singing involve various muscles in performance. Singing involves the throat and chest muscles, larynx and back muscles. Dancing, depending on the form of dance, requires exertion of limb muscles or the entire body. Running out off air, missing a step, and losing the tune are some of the problems that arise when you choose to sing and dance at the same time.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick a song you are comfortable with. Singing a fast song requires short fast breathes and a slow song requires deep, full breathes.

    • 2

Tap your foot to the beat of the song. Getting the rhythm of the song helps to choreograph a dance that flows with the song. Pick moves that are not too fast or jumpy; these moves make your voice go up and down when you do that.

    • 3

Select moves that mark a transition in the song; this helps you remember certain parts of the song by associating them with a certain dance move.

    • 4

Breathe in enough air to take you through each phrase of the song. Practice breathing at the end of phrases and holding in air to sing out the high notes. Listening to the sound of your voice to evaluate how well you are doing. When your voice breaks at a high note or goes flat, it means you are not breathing in the right way.

    • 5

Place steps such as spinning, jumping and leaping in sections that the song slows down or pauses. This helps you focus your energy on the fast moves without running short of breathe.
