Create a crossword puzzle. You can do it yourself at home with pen and paper, but this may take some time. If you want to create one a little faster, there are several online sites that are free to use (See References). Simply type in the term and a corresponding hint. Once you have entered all the information, your custom crossword puzzle will be created for you in a few minutes. Use your creation in the classroom or study groups. Make each crossword based on a certain area of study such as one for the digestion system, reproductive system or names of body parts. Hints can be definitions of physiological terms or descriptions of body parts.
Flash cards are one of the most classic study techniques. They are a great tool to study alone but can also be used for groups. Make a trivia game out them. Assign one person to be the "Host" and divide the others into teams. The host then reads the clue from the flashcards and the first team to respond correctly wins a point. With flashcards you have freedom to create photo flash cards as well to help learn how to identify parts of the human or animal anatomy. For instance, glue pictures of the human brain on one side with the area of the brain you want identified highlighted or colored.
Create an association game. Make cards from construction paper. Each card should have a corresponding card. For instance, one may have a picture of a brain and the other may say "Nervous System." Lay all of the cards out face up. Take turns matching pairs until all cards have been paired. Other object associations within the field of physiology may be cards which have an image to represent taste or smell and the corresponding card would have the part of the brain responsible for these senses.
Create games using Microsoft Powerpoint. You can download templates online designed to fit almost any subject. Use the template provided and add your own information in the designated fields. This is a great option if you use a website to communicate with students or study groups. Powerpoint allows you to be creative with your design. With this program you can change colors, fonts, add clipart or add your own photos. Create a game board with questions and photos related to cell anatomy or the optical system. More points are given to the more difficult questions, allowing the player to move more spaces on the game board. Easier questions such as "How many chambers does the human heart have?" are worth less points.
