Sheriff Badge Craft Ideas

Create a sheriff's badge and play cops and robbers with your child. Use materials you have available at home, such as leftover fabric or colorful paper, or recyclable items, such as plastic bottles, cardboard and cans. In addition to entertaining, crafting sheriff badges helps the children to develop their creativity and artistic skills.
  1. Paper Badges

    • You can use pieces of cardboard to make an original sheriff badge. Draw the traditional star shape on cardboard and cut it out. Wrap kitchen aluminum foil around it to give a metallic appearance. You can write the child's name together with the word "Sheriff" on the foil using a toothpick or permanent marker. Tape a safety pin on the badge's back. Alternatively, make a creative Sheriff badge by drawing and cutting different shapes, such as a car, a flower or whatever your children may suggest. Decorate with colorful paper.

    Metal Badges

    • Decorate a can's lid by making small holes on it with a nail and a hammer. Create the Sheriff star, write the word "Sheriff," write the child's name or make an original pattern. Glue a piece of cellophane or colorful foil paper on one side of the badge, so it is visible through the holes. Use metal cutting shears to cut a star shape out of a can. Paint it or decorate by gluing colorful beads or metal nuts. Make sure you glue a piece of fabric or other material around the edges of the metal so that it's not sharp or dangerous.

    Fabric Badges

    • Make a badge by cutting a star shape out of leftover pieces of fabric. Decorate with small buttons, leftover yarn or ribbon. Use a black marker to write the child's name, or embroider the name of the child on it in colorful floss. Attach it to your child's shirt with a safety pin. Alternatively, cut the front end of an old sock and stuff it with scrap fabric, giving it a round shape. Stitch it to close. Make the star's points by sewing triangular pieces of felt to the stuffed sock.

    Plastic Badges

    • Recycle plastic items, such as bottle caps, plastic bottles, yogurt and ice cream pots into a Sheriff badge. Cut off the bottom of bottles or pots to make the base of the badge. Decorate with plastic beads, dry pasta or simply paint it. Cut a round shape out of a plastic bottle. Attach five clothespins to it to make the star's points. Alternatively, glue bottle caps together, in a star shape.
