Ethyl acetate is a common solvent found in acetone-free nail polish removers. It is a component of Honeybee Gardens Nail Polish Remover, which also contains other acetates. Cutex also has acetate-based nail polish removers on the market, including Manicure Correction nail polish remover pen and Quick & Gentle non-acetone nail polish remover. Barielle acetone-free nail polish remover is another alternative containing ethyl and butyl acetates.
Propylene carbonate and dipropylene glycol are other solvents present in formulations of acetone-free polish nail removers. Nutra Nail Brush-On polish remover contains these chemical solvents, as well as green tea antioxidants, aloe barbadensis leaf extract and glycerin. Read the label carefully when choosing your nail polish remover, because propylene carbonate and dipropylene glycol are also found in acetone-containing formulations.
Another solvent used in the production of nail polish removers is isopropyl alcohol. Acetone-free products containing isopropyl alcohol available on the market include Sephora's Nails, which also has ethyl and butyl acetates, macadamia and castor seed oils; and E.l.f Cosmetics nail polish removal pads, which also contain acetates and other alcohols.
Some nail polish removers use plant compounds as their main ingredients. PeaceKeeper Eco-Easy nail polish remover is made of ethyl lactate (a biodegradable solvent extracted from sugar beets), glycerin, water, spearmint leaf and rosemary. Keeki Pure and Simple nail polish remover is another natural option, containing corn alcohol and aloe vera extract. You can also try Suncoat nail polish remover, made with ethyl lactate from corn and methyl soyate from soya oil.
