How to Exercise Mentally

To keep yourself healthy, you need to do more than just physical exercise. Mental exercises keep your mind sharp for many years to come. If you continuously exercise your brain, you diminish your chances of developing mental disorders, like dementia. Keep your mind sharp by exercising mentally.

      Complete puzzles. Puzzles sharpen the mind and test your ability to figure out answers by using visual and verbal clues. Any type of puzzle exercises your brain, including Sudoku, crossword and jigsaw puzzles.

      Work on your sense of perception. Exercising your five senses should be a regular part of your daily routine. Try to recall things by using your senses. For example, attempt to identify foods through smell alone. Another exercise is to study an object on the street and then draw it from memory an hour or more later.

      Use your mathematical skills. Exercise mentally by working out quotients in your head. Estimate the measurements of household objects and then check your accuracy afterwards with a measuring device.
