Direct your Web browser to the United Nations Development Programme at www.undp.org. This program has been doing comprehensive work, through country-by-country studies, to study the issues and mechanisms causing social exclusion in populations worldwide.
Click on the 'Search' window at the bottom of the lefthand column and type in "social exclusion." This will bring up UNDP articles, stories, reports, study results and informational resources specific to the UNDP's programs focused on social exclusion.
Contact your local homeless shelters and food banks and volunteer. This will expose you to the direct consequences of poverty in your local community. Engage in discussions with other volunteers and those you serve with conversations about what mechanisms have created the problems in your area. Ask about experiences of social exclusion to see what contributing factors are active in your community.
Attend meetings and conferences about social exclusion offered by your local civil rights center or groups. You can locate resources by asking within the advocacy populations in your area or you can locate larger gatherings through browsing online.
Lead discussions among your friends and family about what you are learning about social exclusion. One of the best ways to gain a full understanding of a topic is through exposure and discussion.
