First, determine what it is you are striving for. Set goals and follow a plan for reaching them. Search yourself in all aspects of your being---spiritual, mental, physical, and emotional---and any areas that fall under each of these categories. Determine which areas of your life you seek to improve and come up with a plan for improving and developing these areas.
One of the most obvious but oftentimes overlooked tactics is to become a product of positivity. Surround yourself with positive influences, positive people, and a positive environment. Maintain a positive attitude and outlook at all times---even during perceived bad times. Seek a positive outcome, and the results are more likely to manifest as such.
Another important step is to determine where you are, where you desire to be, and how you can get there. Remain focused on what you are trying to achieve. Your personal success journey begins with tapping into the personal power within you. You determine your own success, and it will be based on your ability to motivate, educate and prepare yourself for the highest levels of achievement. Your thought process will determine your accomplishments, which will be accompanied by the actions you put forth to reinforce those thoughts.
Creating a successful personal development plan also requires creating a realistic time line. Track your progress and be disciplined in devoting a specified amount of time daily and/or weekly toward reaching your goals. Review your plan periodically as priorities shift and challenges arise, and make adjustments accordingly. Although you want to be mindful of potential roadblocks or obstacles, you should never allow them to hinder you from attaining your goals. Celebrate successful moments along the way. View true success as an ongoing journey, not just the point of arrival.
