For men, shirts should be tucked in, while ties and sport coats are encouraged but often not required. For women, dress shirts and pants are standard. In general, jeans should be avoided unless otherwise indicated.
Shoes should be well cared for. Scuffs and dirt should be at a minimum. Flip flops and house shoes should be avoided. Any type of hat is not permitted. Jewelry should be at a minimum; those with facial piercings should contact their supervisor for specific instructions.
Personal grooming is included in the dress code of many universities because it completes the look of professionalism. Individuals are encouraged to have proper grooming and personal maintenance. For example, hair should be clean and groomed; beards should be neat and trimmed. Nails should be clean and properly maintained.
