How Can I Get a Government Grant in British Columbia?

To get a government grant in British Columbia, you aren't limited to looking to the British Columbian provincial government for funds---you can also get funding from the Canadian government. Look for grants specific to your business or personal objectives. If you need funding to open a business, you may need to look at other sources of funding for your goals. Because specific stipulations may govern how to use some funding, be certain you are aware of these before applying for a grant.

Apply for a grant from the British Columbian Arts Council. As of 2010, such grants are available for registered not-for-profit groups, professional arts organizations, and noncultural or artistic not-for-profits that are working with an artist on a project. First Nation (or Native Canadian) Band Councils or Friendship Centres are also eligible to receive funding. To apply, the proposed project needs to be original, require at least $500 of funding, demonstrate that it will help create art the community can own, create projects that will lead to other activities and projects, and include a plan to share skills and information with others in the arts community, among other community-based artistic goals.

Apply online at the British Columbia Arts website (see References). Promote your government source of funding by placing the name of the grant on materials advertising the event. Use the website to get ready-made promotional logos.
