How to Use a Liquid Oxygen Tank Air Gas

Oxygen placed under extremely cold temperatures turns into liquid oxygen. In a liquid state, oxygen can then be stored in a specialized tank. When the liquid oxygen is warmed in the tank, it transforms into a gas. This gas is used for medical purposes and administered to patients for breathing. A plastic tube called a nasal cannula is hooked up to the oxygen tank. You adjust the gauge on the tank, and place the nasal cannula in your nose to breathe the oxygen. However, oxygen tanks require special care. It is important to know how to properly use them to ensure your home stays safe.

Instructions

Store your oxygen tank in a safe part of your home. Do not place the oxygen tank near any heat source. Store the tank in an enclosed space away from any clutter. Remove any excess items from the storage space. Do not store anything flammable next to the oxygen tank.

Find the oxygen outlet on your tank. It is located at the top of the tank and is pointed, allowing the end of the plastic tubing to be easily fitted. Connect the end of the plastic tube to the oxygen outlet.

    • 3

Locate the other end of the plastic tubing. This end will already have the nasal cannula attached to it. Place both prongs of the nasal cannula into your nose. Adjust each side of the plastic tubing around your face. Tuck the excess tubing behind your ears.

Find the oxygen flow meter located next to the oxygen outlet. Adjust the oxygen flow meter by turning the nozzle connected to the meter to the left. Make sure the needle of the meter adjusts to the rate of oxygen that is prescribed by your doctor. Take an initial deep breath to make sure the oxygen is flowing through the plastic tubing. To turn the oxygen flow off, twist the nozzle connected to the meter to the right until the flow of oxygen stops.
