Read some Italian phrasebooks and dictionaries. If you want to learn how to conjugate essential Italian verbs, write down the verbs from your phrasebook that the author considers the most important to learn and then write all verb tenses of each verb. Finally, memorize one or two of the Italian verbs each day until you are familiar with them.
Meet with your Italian language professor or tutor. When meeting with him, tell him the specific aspects of the Italian language you need extra help with, and during the tutoring sessions take extensive notes for later study. Also ask the professor to give you any print or online resources to help you improve in the Italian language.
Purchase the Italian-language version of the Rosetta Stone DVD. While watching, write down key concepts that the host emphasizes, then memorize them by studying them a few times each week.
Practice speaking and writing Italian at home. For example, if you are planting vegetables in your backyard with your relatives, use Italian adjectives to describe the vegetables you are planting and also say some short phrases in Italian along with an English translation of these phrases to your relatives.
