Build your German vocabulary. Before you can create sentences in German, you must have a basic foundation from which to draw.
Familiarize yourself with parts of speech. German has four cases: nominative, accusative, dative and genitive. Knowing each of these is crucial for writing and speaking the language.
Enroll in a language class through a local college, university or community center. This will allow you to learn from a native speaker. You will also meet other students with whom you can practice. Remember that learning a language should be fun, and there will be a lot of trial and error along the way. Don't be afraid to speak, even if you're unsure of your pronunciation or sentence structure. The only way you will learn is by trying.
Practice speaking. Set aside a designated period of time each day to focus on German. Speak out loud and write things down. You may want to buy audio tapes or CDs so you can hear the language. Watch movies or listen to songs in German. Hearing the language more often will help you become familiar with the sound and word order.
