About American Red Cross CPR Instructor Training

The American Red Cross has been providing CPR training for over 80 years. In addition to general CPR training, those interested can take courses on how to become a CPR instructor. Courses are open to individuals who have a passion for teaching and helping others and who meet a few age and prior training prerequisites.
  1. Purpose

    • This training program is designed to educate individuals in the methods and teaching techniques for conducting a CPR course according to the American Red Cross' standards.

    Prerequisites

    • Those wishing to participate in this course must be at least 18 years old, hold a Fundamentals of Instructor Training Certificate, and pass the CPR Challenge courses.

    Learning Objectives

    • The instructor training program will meet a number of educational objectives designed to prepare students to teach a CPR course. Above all, students will learn what it takes to be a role model and spokesperson of the American Red Cross. Individuals will also learn how to teach CPR techniques with the student's own skill levels in mind as well as classroom management and student engagement and encouragement techniques. This course also provides students with the policies and procedures for proper record keeping and reporting to the American Red Cross.

    Length of Course

    • This course is approximately 24 class hours, however may vary depending on the number of registered instructor candidates.

    • Pricing may vary. Prices for 2009 instructor courses are $195.
