Army Officer Candidate School Requirements

Army Officer Candidate School (OCS) is a leadership program focused on producing officers for Regular, Reserve and National Guard service. The program is 14 weeks long and operates from Fort Benning, Georgia.
  1. Age Requirements

    • A candidate must be at least 18 years old, but no older than 29 years old, at the time of selection by a U.S. Army Recruiting Command (USAREC) candidate board. The latter age limitation may be waived, however, at the discretion of the service.

    Citizenship Requirement

    • All candidates must be United States citizens.

    Educational Requirements

    • In order to enter OCS, all candidates must complete a four-year degree from an accredited college or university.

    Screening Requirements

    • All candidates must produce a minimum score of 110 on the General Test (GT) module of the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB).

    Height and Weight Requirements

    • The candidate must meet minimum requirements related to the Army's formal height and weight matrix. Further, a candidate must successfully pass a comprehensive physical examination at a certified Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS).

    Security Clearance and Federal Service Limitation

    • The candidate must be able to pass a detailed security clearance. Additionally, a candidate cannot have more than 10 years prior service at the point of commission.
