Make a satellite flower and rock garden out of your big satellite dish. Rest the dish at an angle by leaning it up against a couple of good-sized rocks or small boulders. Fill it with dirt and place some medium size rocks randomly on top of the dirt. Plant a garden of all types of flowers with an array of colors that are out of this world.
The shape of the satellite makes it perfect to use for a base of a water fountain. Put the dish on the ground facing straight up and build a rock wall all along the outside rim for a border. Paint the inside of the dish with blue pool paint to make it waterproof. Build a mound of rocks in the middle using round and flat rocks for the water to cascade over. Adhere the rocks together using masonry cement and tuck a typical fountain pump in a small concave area that you purposely leave in the rocks.
Water proof the dish with pool paint and place it face up on pillars in your yard for your own rain collector. Use the rainwater it collects to water your lawn by connecting a hose to a hole that you drill in the center of the dish. Plug the hole when not using the hose.
Dogs love pools, but they tend to rip the lining with their nails. Make your satellite dish a dog pool by painting it with pool paint. Drill a hole at the bottom and put a plug in it that can be opened to drain the pool. Build a ramp up to it if it is a large deep dish for easy access in and out for your dog. Fill it on a semi-daily basis as you would with a small pool for a child.
Flip the satellite dish upside down and use it as a dome for a gazebo. Make a Roman gazebo using four pillars that hold the domed dish on top. Paint it all one color for a great addition to your yard.
Give your kids the best tea-cup merry-go-round in the neighbor hood. Paint the dish bright and vibrant colors and if you are artistic and add a couple of fun art pictures that will appeal to kids. Put a couple of low railings made from PVC pipes going from the center of the dish to the edge for them to hang on to. Attach a small two-rung ladder to the dish for easy access in and out. Devise a base that works like a large lazy Susan using ball bearings. Your kids will have a great flying saucer ride as you give them a spin.
Build a round playhouse out of cinder blocks for your kids and use the dish as the domed top. Paint the entire building white when it is done and call it an igloo.
Flip it over the other way and anchor it to the ground with two small ladders on each side. Fill it with sand for a flying saucer sandbox.
Wax the dome and use it as a family flying saucer when you go sledding. Attach a couple of leather straps for something to hold on to.
