How to Calculate Dish Skew Angle

Dish Network provides a direct broadcast satellite service that includes satellite television, audio programming and interactive television. Satellite television is programming relayed by satellite, offering a larger variety of choices not usually available on terrestrial networks. In order to get the most accurate satellite connection to the dish receiver, you must calculate the skew angle. This is the position needed to receive the satellite communications.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to an online dish angle calculator. Type in the ZIP code, dish type and satellite number to compute.

    • 2

View the onscreen guide for the Dish Network satellite receiver. Select "System Setup," "Installation" and "Point Dish." The guide will calculate the satellite strength, azimuth, skew angles and elevation. The skew angle is the degree at which the dish is facing.

    • 3

Adjust the skew angle of the dish by turning it clockwise or counter-clockwise based on what is suggested from the onscreen guide.

    • 4

Loosen the adjustment nuts on the dish with the socket wrench to set the azimuth and turn the dish further to the suggested skew angle. View the compass to achieve the correct angle. Pull out the elevation nuts with the socket wrench to loosen them and set the elevation of the dish to the suggested height.

    • 5

Verify the satellite connection is listed as green on the onscreen guide and the tone is high-pitched.
