How to Obtain a Certification of CNA License in Texas

A certified nurse aid (CNA) assists registered nurses with many responsibilities. In order to become a CNA in Texas, you must fulfill several requirements. The path to certification can vary depending on certain factors. The state of Texas does not have any minimum education requirements to become a CNA, according to the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS).

      Complete a state-accredited nurse training program and competency evaluation course. See resources for a list of accredited schools.

      Schedule your state exam. According to DADS, the training program usually does this for you but you can also call the Nurse Aid Competency Evaluation Services (NACES). See reference section for contact information.

      Pass the state exam. You will receive your certificate in four to six weeks. You can re-take the test two times to achieve a passing score. If you do not pass by your third exam, you need to retake the training before taking the test again.
