How to Become a Licensed Realtor in Ontario

If you enjoy sales and real estate and live in Ontario, Canada, a career as a licensed realtor may be for you. As a licensed realtor, you will be responsible for the sale of properties owned by your clients. In the process, you will be responsible for finding potential buyers and marketing the strong points of the property. Becoming a licensed realtor requires a series of prerequisites and certain classes that must be taken before a license can be obtained.

      Meet the prerequisites for becoming a licensed realtor in Ontario. These prerequisites consist of the following requirements: you must be at least 18 years old, be a resident of Canada, complete the necessary RECO forms and be able to pay the associated fees.

      Register and complete the "Real Estate as a Professional Career" class through the Ontario Real Estate Association (OREA) website. The class costs $450 to take and covers a general overview of the profession, a overview on the economics and geographical principles to real estate, a basic overview of mathematics and the study of consumer buying habits in relation to real estate.

      Pass the test at the end of your "Real Estate as a Professional Career" class. This test will cover all of the knowledge learned in the aforementioned areas that the course covers.

      Obtain employment with a registered real estate brokerage. Once employment has been obtained and the test has been successfully passed, you will become a license realtor in Ontario.
