Vocational Schools in Typing

Many careers require the use of computers, many of them within the field of business, administration or technology. The basic concept to master when using the computer, especially for business-related reasons, is that of typing. Schools across the country offer courses in typing, often under keyboarding or word-processing titles.
  1. Riverside Community College

    • The Riverside Community College's Computer Applications and Office Technology academic program offers seven certificates that relate to typing: executive office management (degree or certificate), administrative office professional, office assistant, legal secretarial studies, executive office professional, office fast track and virtual assistant. Courses within these programs are computers for beginners, keyboarding and document processing, and keyboarding/typing fundamentals.

    Northern Virginia Community College

    • The Northern Virginia Community College has campuses in eight locations in Virginia. The programs offered with keyboarding are the bookkeeping certificate, administrative support technology specialization associate's degree, information processing career studies certificate, word processing and career studies certificate. Courses in typing are featured under the category of administrative support technology, and include two keyboarding courses focusing on technique, speed, accuracy and format (personal or business), as well as two word processing courses focusing on editing and creating documents in software.

    Houston Community College

    • Located in Texas, the Houston Community College Business Technology Department offers certificates in general office administration, human resources/PeopleSoft, legal office assistant, medical coding, Microsoft Office technology, and bilingual business technology, all of which require keyboarding courses. One of these courses is beginning keyboarding, which emphasizes typing speed, document formatting and accuracy. The other is intermediate keyboarding, which continues these skills and focuses on editing, following instructions and proofreading.
