MAPS, started in 2003, is an Irish Aid program which works with five agencies to fund long-term projects aimed at improving life in developing nations. The funding goes toward improving access to water, health, education, shelter and strengthening the ability of people in the area to improve their lives, among other goals. The five agencies involved include Trocaire, Christian Aid, Self-Help Development International, Concern and GOAL.
Emergency and Recovery funding were provided to over 40 nations in 2008. These monies are meant to protect vulnerable groups of people and was provided in partnerships with other organizations. These groups included the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, non-governmental organizations and UN partners (see Reference 1).
The Programme for Strategic Cooperation between Irish Aid and Higher Education and Research Institutes 2007-2013 is a program meant to facilitate information exchange between nations getting funding and Ireland. The purpose of the program is to form partnerships between Irish universities and research organizations with institutions in the nations getting aid. Started in 2006, the program has been given 12 million euros for implementation between 2007-2013 (see Reference 1).
