Alliance Francaise has offices in numerous cities internationally and within the United States. In addition to providing language courses in French to non-native speakers, the center is also one of the largest cultural centers in the world with more than 1,300 chapters worldwide. The Alliance Francaise in Washington, D.C., is affiliated with the Alliance Francaise in Paris and is recognized for being a "French village in the heart of Washington." The center hosts numerous cultural events and social activities as well as offering a variety of French classes for advanced and beginning students. Prospective students have the option of enrolling in formal classes, workshops or literature groups. The formal language acquisition class is ideal for beginning students. The course meets for eight weeks and is also offered as an intensive course. The curriculum for beginning French includes basic grammar and conversation lessons.
