      Apply online to your preferred program. You will need to supply high school transcripts.

      Complete the course requirements. All courses will be online, so you will be able to work at your own pace. Depending on the program, an internship in a pharmacy may be required in addition to online classes. Training can be completed within six months to a year including the internship, but as students work at their own pace, they can take as much time as they need to finish. Tuition generally ranges from $600 to $1500. Typical classes include the history of pharmacy, pharmacy law and ethics, community and institutional pharmacy and pharmacology.

      Take and pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam. Apply to take the exam at PTCB's website. The test is administered by Pearson VUE Professional Testing Centers located in Rochester at 3445 Winston Place Plaza. The computer-based test consists of 90 multiple-choice questions. Completion requires two hours, and the exam costs $129, as of fall 2010.
