The SBCC Cosmetology Academy uses hands-on training and lectures to prepare its students to become creative professionals in the beauty industry. Its programs qualify graduates for licensing exams of the California State Board. For cosmetology examinees, this means completion of 1,800 hours of lectures and labs in the science of hair, makeup, skin and nail care. Before qualifying to take the exams to be a licensed esthetician, examinees must have completed a 600-hour program in the science and techniques of applying makeup expertly and administering treatments of skin care.
