Make an appointment with a guidance counselor at your local high school. A guidance counselor can likely inform you about testing centers and policies, as well as resources you can take advantage of at home.
Contact your local GED testing facility. Set up an appointment to meet with someone to discuss your options. At the meeting, you will have the opportunity to set a date for your GED test, giving you a timeline to prepare for your test at home. Discuss the resources that may be available to you, such as books, pamphlets or free preparation classes.
Purchase a GED test prep book, such as "Complete GED Preparation." This all-inclusive book is often used in GED preparation classes. It comes complete with updated information, practice tests and answer keys. The book retails for less than $20 and is available at most major book stores.
Set a schedule. Make time in your day, every day, to study and complete practice tests. Set aside an area in your home where you can concentrate without distraction. The more you study at home, the better equipped you'll be on test day.
