New England Tractor-Trailer Training School was founded in 1965 and has campuses in Somers and Bridgeport, as well as locations in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The school provides CDL training as well as job placement assistance for graduates and financial aid to students.
In addition to training students to pass their CDL tests and to drive tractor-trailers, they also have classes in how to be a heavy truck operator.
A.B. CDL Driver Training Center has one campus, located in Waterford, Connecticut In addition to CDL training, it offers CPR and first-aid classes and a defensive driving course.
The school's Web site states that the center's program is approved by the Connecticut Commissioner of Higher Education, the CTWorks job-seekers program administered by the Connecticut Department of Labor and by the Veteran's Administration.
Allstate Commercial Driver Training was founded in 1975 and has one campus, in Shelton, Connecticut. The school says it provides one-on-one instruction in 60 to 90 minute blocks, seven days a week, to allow students to fit the training around their other obligations. The school's training facility is an approved DMV testing site for the driving portion of the CDL licensing test.
Drivers wishing to get a CDL in the state of Connecticut are not required to attend any school program. The only requirements are that the applicant be 18 years old, or 21, if he wishes to haul hazardous materials and that he pass the written and road tests given by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
