NCEA Catholic Distance Learning Courses

The National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) is the world's largest private professional membership organization of Catholic educators and institutions. According to its website, the association's mandate is "to provide leadership, direction and service to fulfill the evangelizing, catechizing and teaching mission of the Church." Recognizing the need to adapt to modern technology and accommodate busy lifestyles, some NCEA member institutions offer Catholic distance education courses geared toward adult learners.
  1. Catholic Distance University

    • Catholic Distance University offers courses and degree programs online and on paper, with no residency requirements.

The B.A. Completion Program in Theology enables students with undergraduate credits to obtain their degree by earning additional credits and completing the requirements for graduation. This program equips students with the essential Catholic teachings using Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition and Magisterial documents.

Students in the Master of Arts in Theology program may select one of four concentration areas: Ecclesial Service, Sacred Scripture, Philosophy/Theology or Catholic Culture. This degree is recommended for religious education teachers or administrators, for people who want to pursue careers in church ministry or who are studying for a religious vocation.

The Catechetical Diploma is designed to train both religious and laypersons to teach the Catholic faith with skill and authority. The teaching certificate awarded to graduates is authorized by the Vatican Congregation for the Clergy, which is responsible for catechetics.

Non-degree courses in theology, scripture, church history, Catholic spirituality, vocation and mission of the laity, Mary in Catholic tradition, and other subjects are also available for individuals desiring to enrich their spiritual life and understanding of Catholic doctrines.
