DOTS Traffic School offers state licensed programming for those convicted of DUI. Classes are available on evenings and weekends for those requiring flexible hours. Information regarding your court judgment is required at time of registration to ensure that the appropriate information is reported to the Department of Motor Vehicles. Once registration is complete, the traffic school will issue a letter of registration.
The Broward -Dade Safety Council has been providing driver's education in Broward County for over 40 years, offering classes in English or Spanish. It offers state certified DUI training programs. The DUI programs include level one for first offenses. Level one includes three parts: program enrollment and selection of dates for classes and a separate evaluation; a one-hour individual, private evaluation/interview; and class instruction. Level two, for those with at least one prior conviction, is a 21-hour program comprised of program enrollment and selection of dates for classes; a separate one-hour individual, private evaluation/interview; and class instruction.
Located 18 miles away in Coral Springs, the Metro Traffic School is a not-for-profit program operated by the Department of Highways and Motor Vehicles. The Metro Traffic school offers training for those who have been convicted of a DUI. It will satisfy the court and Department of Motor Vehicles and is available in English or Spanish. Curriculum follows the 12-hour programming legislated by the state, in-person classroom time and evaluation.
Located 27 miles from Fort Lauderdale in Miami, the Advocate Program offers state-licensed programming for DUI convictions. The Advocate Program is a not-for-profit agency that has been in Miami Dade County for over 25 years. The level one course for first convictions consists of 12 hours. It also offers level two programming for those who have been charged with multiple DUIs. This course consists of 21 hours similar to the curriculum offered in level one, but this time in small group discussion format. Treatment referrals may be made to Florida's Department of Child and Families for licensed counseling agencies. The Advocate Program offers a special supervision services program for voluntary, multiple offenders with five-year to 10-year and lifetime revocations. Participation in this program is available on a monthly basis, allowing participants to apply for restricted driving permission.
