Educate yourself about the history of Alpha Chi Omega. AXΩ was founded on October 15, 1885, at Indiana's DePauw University. The dean of the School of Music invited seven women to form a society. The seven original founders were Anna Allen, Amy DuBois, Olive Burnett, Bertha Deniston, Nellie Gamble, Estelle Leonard and Bessie Grooms.
Observe Alpha Chi Omega's commitment to philanthropic endeavors. The sorority has two main national causes: a desire to end domestic violence and support its victims, and the MacDowell Colony, a musician's studio in New Hampshire at which artists are free to pursue their creative work without interruption. Individual sororities may add local altruistic programs of their own choosing.
Study the symbology of Alpha Chi Omega. The sorority's symbol is the lyre (an ancient Greek musical instrument). Pearls are AXΩ's gem. Their flower is the red carnation. The sorority colors are scarlet and olive. Alpha Chi Omega's open motto is "Together let us seek the heights."
