Get involved in student activities. Most universities offer a club for every nationality, creed, belief, cause and activity imaginable. Find the ones that appeal to you and get involved. You will make friends, have fun and immediately feel less alone in your new surroundings.

    • 2

Connect with your roommate. Dorm life has the potential to make your college experience amazing or horrifying, depending largely on how well you and your roommate(s) get along. Try to build a strong relationship from day one, and you will always have a close acquaintance in whom you can confide.

    • 3

Set specific academic goals. Resolve to maintain a high grade-point average, earn a spot on the Dean's list or perhaps complete a specific number of units each semester. These challenging but attainable goals will help you to remain focused, optimistic and driven even as feelings of homesickness begin to manifest.

Talk to a school psychologist. Most universities provide campus psychologists for students, and many schools provide these services free of charge. If you need to talk to somebody, do not wait.
