Choose the pieces you would like to include in your portfolio. You should select the pieces that are both the your most recent and your strongest. The pieces you select should demonstrate your skill, versatility and a personal style. You should also check to see if the school you are applying for has any particlular requirements for portfolios before they are submitted. Take photos of any piece that is too small to fit into your portfolio and develop the photos at a size that is similar to your other pieces.
Decide what order you would like to put your pieces in. It will help the flow of your portfolio to start with fairly strong pieces but to save your strongest piece for the very last. Also consider placing pieces that complement each other next to each other in the portfolio to maintain an cohesive aesthetic.
Mount pieces on background paper or matting to create a professional, clean look for your portfolio. Choose colors for matting that are complementary to the piece and don't distract from the art itself. All of your pieces should be cleanly trimmed.
Display your pieces in a portfolio folder. Large portfolios can be purchased at most art or craft stores. Adhere your pieces using removable tape.
Label your pieces. You can use labels to indicate the title of the pieces and the medium that was used to create it, but you may also use labels to give a brief description of the project as well.
