Choose the topic that you are going to write about for that subject. Whether you have been assigned a topic or given the freedom to choose your own topic, you should specifically outline what it is that you will discuss about this topic. Narrow down the topic as much as possible so you can conduct very specific research.
Research the topic in the university library and through online search engines and academic websites. Many libraries also feature online databases that you can use to search for your topic. If you're having trouble finding information, consult a librarian to assist you with your topic search.
Read through the materials several times to get a good understanding of the topic and how it applies to your report. Create an outline that includes an introduction, body paragraph and a conclusion. The introduction should clearly state the topic and the thesis or idea surrounding the topic, as well as what will be discussed in the body of the essay.
Write the essay body and designate a paragraph for each idea. Make sure that each paragraph and idea can be tied back to the thesis statement specified in the introductory paragraph. Include references and footnotes for information that relies on your references. Avoid using too many references and be sure to have a nice balance of original thought and supporting references. The concluding paragraph should reiterate the main point of the thesis and the conclusion that can be drawn from this.
Read your essay and detect any grammatical or spelling errors. Make sure that all statements are clearly written and are supported by references, and that they support the main thesis of the subject you are writing about. The report should be double-spaced and include a list of references. Also have a friend or family member read over the report. Sometimes a fresh pair of eyes can spot inconsistencies and mistakes that you can't.
