Research a number of culinary arts schools. Check each school's tuition prices and review its curriculum to decide which school is best for you.
Contact the culinary arts school and request and application to join a degree program. Fill out the application form and send the completed form to your preferred culinary arts school along with any applicable application fees.
Apply for student loans to pay tuition. Tuition can be payed in full or through financial aid. Contact a guidance councilor and ask about applying for financial aid.
Complete the required classroom courses. You will also complete hands-on courses to learn how to bake and prepare desserts, breads and pastries.
Get an internship at a local bakery or hotel. Many event caterers provide cakes and desserts, which are prepared by pastry chefs. Contact local bakeries, catering services and hotels and ask to act as an apprentice to get the work experience of being a pastry chef. An internship is generally required to to receive a bachelor's degree as a pastry chef.
