MyMathLab includes all of the materials needed to learn a course. Instructors set up a course shell based on a Pearson textbook, and all of the assignments are based on the textbook and are designed to reinforce principles contained within the textbook. One advantage of this is that instructors don't have to scramble to include all of the material in every class session; they can assign portions of the class for students to learn at home through MyMathLab.
When students work on their homework, it can be a frustrating experience. Textbooks generally have only some answers to questions in the back of the book, leaving no way for students to check their work until they get the graded paper back from their professor. MyMathLab gives instant feedback to students and tells them which questions were right and which were wrong. Instructors can set homework up for multiple attempts so students can try to complete the work again.
Before online math programs, students stuck on problems used to have to go to a campus math lab or find a tutor to help them with a problem. MyMathLab helps students by providing them with hints for the answers. Each question also has a link to the relevant part of the textbook so that the student doesn't have to get frustrated with flipping pages to find help.
Instant grading is a benefit for both students and professors. Students can view their grade after they press the "Submit" button. They can even attempt the homework again if their grade wasn't sufficient (with the instructor's approval). Instructors benefit from the instant grading because they no longer have to spend hours grading papers. Instead, they can devote the time they would have spent grading to more student-centered activities, such as offering extended office hours.
