The University of Virginia-Wise, located in Abingdon, Virginia, launched a summer robotics program for students in the summer of 2010. The program is offered by the Computer Science Department at the Wise location and is geared towards high school students with an interest in computer science and technology. The Summer Program in Robotics and Intelligent Technology (SPIRIT) takes place for four days in June to help provide students with hands-on experience in robotics and artificial intelligence.
University students who want to learn more about AI and robotics can enroll in the University of Virginia's Computer Science department. While there are no specialist degrees designed for individuals looking to walk away with a degree in AI and robotics, there are technology courses that students can take that will provide them with skills and knowledge in this area. The University computer science degree has a course called Introduction to Robotics and Artificial Intelligence that provides students with knowledge about planning, reasoning and learning perception with robotic control.
The Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, located in Blacksburg, Virginia, also provides an introductory course in artificial intelligence in their computer science department. Students enrolled in computer science can take CS4804 to learn about problem solving, game playing and computer vision applications for robotics.
The Introduction to Artificial Intelligence course is a part of Virginia Tech's Knowledge, Information and Data (KID) Track program. The track focuses on the broad field of data, information and knowledge. The sub-areas include artificial intelligence, classification, database management and many more, related to bioinformatics, library and information science and multimedia development.
