How to Include an Appendix in APA Format

The Appendix of your APA-formatted manuscript can be an integral part in your paper. Here you include data, such as tables and figures, that add information to the article but may not be necessary in the manuscript's body. For instance, large tables or questionnaires may distract readers. Learn proper formatting in order to incorporate an appendix into your paper.

Instructions

    • 1

Begin your appendices after the works references section.

    • 2

Set the left side margin to 1-1/2 inch.

    • 3

Use double-spacing and the same typeface font as you have throughout the paper.

    • 4

Use the same header that you have used throughout the document in your appendix, including the paper's title left-aligned and page number right-aligned.

    • 5

Center-align "Appendix" at the top of the page below the header. For multiple appendixes, title the page "Appendix A," "Appendix B," etc.

    • 6

Insert the title of the appendix directly below "Appendix," center-aligned.

    • 7

Left-align the first line of the appendix. Preceding paragraphs should follow normal APA indentation guidelines.

    • 8

Start each appendix on its own page.

    • 9

Use the same formatting for tables and figures in your appendix as you have throughout the paper. If you use multiple appendices, label the figure with the appendix's letter included. For example, Appendix B's first figure must be labeled "Figure B1."
