Sassoon cosmetology courses emphasize preparing students for the real world. Only two Vidal Sassoon Academies in the world offer a full cosmetology course. Fundamental cosmetology training at the Academy in Santa Monica, California, offers a 44-week-long course with a two week-recess. Students who complete the 1,600-hour training course are prepared to take and pass the California cosmetology license exam. The only other place to earn your beginning cosmetology certification from Sassoon is in London, England. The program in London is only 30 weeks long and is specific to hair styling rather than a general cosmetology program. The Academy in London is licensed to sponsor non-European Union students for study in the UK, so students from around the world are able to attend.
While there are only two full Sassoon Academies in the world, many others offer only advanced training for previously licensed professionals. These courses are intended to enhance students' skills and understanding, teach new techniques and modern spins on classic styles. The advanced courses through Sassoon help students meet the continuing education credits many states require for license renewals. Advanced training courses are offered in a number of specific areas, including cutting, color, creative color, men's hair, master courses and chemical intensives. Advanced training schools are located in Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, San Francisco, Seattle, and internationally in London, Toronto, Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munchen.
Sassoon Academy Connection Member Schools are owned independently but teach Sassoon hair cutting techniques. Teachers at the 13 Sassoon Academy Connection schools must attend teacher training at the Sassoon Academy before they are permitted to teach students. In addition to learning the renowned ABCs of hair cutting, Sassoon Academy Creative Team members will visit each school for demonstrations and classes. Graduates of Connection Schools also receive a 15 percent discount on future advanced Sassoon training.
