Volunteer State Community College is located in Gallatin, Tennessee. This campus offers two types of Emergency Medical Technician classes: Basic and Paramedic. EMT-Paramedic students take up to 2,000 hours of advanced emergency care training while EMT-Basic students need less than 150 hours of basic first aid and emergency care training. Students interested in taking either class learn how to recognize and assess medical emergencies. Volunteer State Community College offers both programs in two different locations, in Nashville and Clarksville, Tennessee, and only 16 students are allowed in each class. Students must complete both lecture and clinical classes to take the certification exam. To be accepted into either certification program, students must take and pass a background check, be over 18 years of age and able to physically lift and move emergency victims. The EMT-Paramedic class is very competitive due to the requirements as students must be able to take and pass a basic EMT exam and psychological profile.
