The Cranbrook Academy of Art is in the Detroit suburb of Bloomfield Hills and is known for its architecture. The campus has been designated a National Historic Landmark by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Founded in 1904, the school routinely ranks among the United States' top three graduate schools in art, architecture and design. Leading artists and designers teach at Cranbrook, which uses the apprenticeship method, meaning students study with one teacher-artist in residence and design their own self-directed program of study. Cranbrook is a graduate school and offers master of fine arts and master of architecture degrees.
