Vocational Schools in North Alabama

Northern Alabama is home to a small number of vocational schools, which grant certificates, diplomas and degrees at both the secondary and post-secondary level. Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on experience, these schools prepare graduates for entry into fields the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations considers among the fastest growing in the United States, including medical science, computer networking, nursing and computer programming.
  1. Madison School of Massage Therapy

    • The Madison School of Massage Therapy is a private, for-profit vocational school in Madison, a suburban area 9 miles northwest of Huntsville. Admissions requirements for the school include a high school diploma or GED, a personal interview with a member of the faculty, passing a physical examination and two letters of recommendation. Applicants must also be at least 18 years of age.

      The school's massage therapy program carries the accreditation of both the Alabama Board of Education and the Alabama Board of Massage Therapy. Students complete course work in medical terminology, anatomy, kinesiology, CPR, hydrotherapy, ethics and business practices as well as complete two clinical internships. The school accepts major credit cards and offers private payment plans. Eligible students can participate in GI Bill veteran's benefits while attending the school. Other government financial aid is not available.

    Earnest Pruett Center of Technology

    • The Earnest Pruett Center of Technology is a secondary-level vocational school in Hollywood, Alabama, approximately 50 miles east of Huntsville. Students must reside within the center's area of service to attend classes and must be enrolled in a high school within the area's borders. Classes are held for half of the school day in either the morning or afternoon with students taking classes at their home high school during the other half.

      Among the programs of study available at the school are auto repair, carpentry, collision repair, health science, industrial maintenance, masonry, precision machining, welding and heating, cooling and air conditioning. The center does not charge tuition of any kind; students can attend classes for free provided they meet the school's admission requirements.

    ITT Technical Institute

    • A private, for-profit, career-training and vocational college, ITT Technical Institute features a branch in Madison. The school offers associate degree programs in computer network systems, programming, web development, computer-aided drafting, visual communications, criminal justice, paralegal studies, nursing, health information technology, engineering technology, accounting technology and business administration. A number of online programs are also offered in fields like computer forensics, project management and construction management. Day and evening classes are available.

      Eligible students can participate in federal and state financial aid programs while attending classes at ITT Technical Institute. The college offers academic advising, tutoring and job placement assistance for both traditional and online students.
