Hearing Aid Technician Training

Hearing aid technicians may be certified or may be licensed by the state. State regulations as to licensing differ from state to state. Many states require an internship or direct supervision by a licensed audiologist. Basic hearing aid training is generally the same.
  1. Terminology

    • Students learn industry-specific terminology used in the hearing aid industry. Auditory disorders are also examined.

    Anatomy and Physiology

    • Students study anatomy and physiology as well as the principles of acoustics and sound.

    Hearing Assessment

    • Students learn how to conduct hearing tests using computers and high-tech equipment and to assess which type of hearing aid best suits the patient.

    Fitting and Servicing Hearing Aids

    • Students learn to make ear-mold impressions, fit, adjust and repair hearing aids.

    Patient Education

    • Students learn how to interact with patients and their families, including dealing with the patient's psychological perspectives of hearing loss.

    Hearing Health-Care Business

    • Students learn how to operate a hearing aid dispensing business.
