Patient Care Tech Schools in Michigan

Patient Care Technicians are an important part to any health care team, as they assist with the initial evaluation of the patient, provide treatment and monitor patient's recovery, along with answering any questions the patient or family members have during discharge. Ability to think on one's feet and performance under pressure is key to helping with the treatment of any patient. Michigan has a variety of schools that have programs specifically designed and catered for Patient Care Technicians.
  1. Everest College

    • Everest College provides students with hands-on career training, a Career Placement Office that helps students find jobs after graduation and in most cases, a nine month completion rate. The Patient Care Technician Program at Everest College will provide student with training in clinical work, like collecting or drawing blood, administering electrocardiograms, recording vital signs and patient treatments and understanding functions of the body and its illnesses.

      After completion of program, student will be eligible to be certified in basic life support from the National Safety Council, and to take exams to become a Electrocardiogram (EKG) or Phlebotomy Technicians. Financial aid is also available.

    Walker Medical Instructional Services

    • Known as an area leader in Patient Care Technician courses, Walker Medical Instructional Services offers a 180-hour program, training students to be nationally certified through the National Health Career Association upon completion.

      The Patient Care Technician Course is a combination of three different curricula drawn up by area hospitals to give insight on what procedures and technical education will be most valuable for students. Class module revolves around Acute Care, Phlebotomy and ECG Technician skills. Students are required to have a current State of Michigan certified nurse's aide certificate. Day and evening classes are available, with classes lasting a 10-week period, with new training periods starting every four weeks.

    • MedRight, Inc. started in 1996 after a leading trauma hospital in Detroit requested continuing medical education classes for its employees. After finding success in the county, other hospitals joined in, creating a need for medical education throughout the Detroit Metropolitan area. MedRight now has a variety of programs to choose from, including a three-month Patient Care Technician course.

      This course teaches students basic anatomy, medical and physiology terminology, how the body functions and how to undertake illnesses and procedures. Patient Care Technician courses are taught every fall and tuition reimbursement is also available from some hospitals.
