Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute – BMCRI

• Founded in 1955, BMCRI is the only government run college in Karnataka. In addition to providing high-quality training in medicine, the institute houses four major hospitals, and provides community medical care through various urban welfare centers. BMCRI has over 27 departments that include psychiatry, psychology, pharmacology and pediatrics. Prospective students can enroll in medicine, paramedical, nursing and diploma programs at the institute. Students enrolled in the medical school have the option of entering the undergraduate or postgraduate programs. Postgraduate students can also specialize in urology, plastic surgery, surgical gastroenterology and pediatric surgery. The institute also awards 12-month fellowships for students specializing in select topics in medicine.

M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Health Sciences – MSRM

• MSRM provides undergraduate and postgraduate training in medicine, dentistry and physiotherapy. The medical program at the institute was founded in 1979, and also houses the M.S. Ramaiah Memorial Hospital. The medical program provides specialized training in urology, neurology and plastic surgery, which runs for four-and-a-half years plus one additional year of residency. Postgraduate training is also provided to students who have completed their medical diploma in fields like anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and pharmacology. In addition, the medical program awards a masters degree in hospital administration.
