The TOEFL is available in two formats: Internet-based and a paper test. The Internet test can be taken at more than 4,500 testing facilities throughout the world. The paper test is offered six times every year and only in areas where Internet testing cannot be performed. The majority of testers take the online test.
The fee associated with the test ranges, depending on your location. As of 2011, the online test fees range from $150 to $225 and the paper test is $160. If you register less than seven days before the scheduled testing date, a late fee of $35 must be paid.
There are three ways to register for the TOEFL. You can register and pay 24 hours a day, seven days a week through the Internet. If the Internet is unavailable, you can register via phone, mail or in person at a Test Resource Center.
TOEFL scores are sent to you and any other requested recipients approximately five weeks after the test is completed. This is the day the scores are sent out; allow for additional time for the mailing system.
You are not permitted to change or reschedule the date of your test. You may request a partial refund -- half of the registration fee -- in writing using TOEFL's "refund request form." You then may schedule a new test, but the fee must be paid again and in full.
