Instructions

    • 1

Create a filing system using a filing cabinet, drawer or basket --- it doesn't matter where you store your information as long as it is organized and easy to find. In your filing system, dedicate a clearly marked file folder to each school you are considering. Inside the folder, store all information, program course lists and brochures for that particular school.

    • 2

Designate a calendar for your search and write down the deadlines for each school. Different schools have different deadlines for various application requirements such as entrance essays, interviews or portfolios. Make sure you clearly mark each deadline or meeting related to your college search on the calendar.

    • 3

Develop a contact list of everyone you might need to contact during your application process. This list should include people you can call on as references for your application, former teachers, admissions officers at various colleges, or scholarship providers.

    • 4

Purchase any other supplies that might help you stay organized such as highlighters to help you highlight brochures and pamphlets, and sticky notes to mark important information located in your files.

    • 5

Organize all your findings into an evaluation worksheet to help you choose the best college. Once you have compiled all your research, develop a method to evaluate and compare the different schools. Factors that might be part of this evaluation include the cost of tuition, cost of residence, scholarships or bursaries available, special programs offered or the reputation of the college.
