Instead of examining SAT or ACT scores alone to determine eligibility for admission, California State University relies on an Eligibility Index Table. Students with lower high school grades need higher SAT or ACT scores for admission. Students with higher high school grade point averages don't have to perform as well on their standardized exams. If using SAT scores, combine the scores from the critical reading and math sections of the test.

Multiply your high school GPA by 800. Add that number to your combined SAT score. The total is your eligibility index.
