Tips on Passing the Accuplacer

The Accuplacer test used to asses basic math, English and reading skills. Although you cannot technically "pass" or "fail" the Accuplacer test, there are several things you can do to earn a higher score and improve your basic skills for college.
  1. Sample Questions

    • Go to the College Board website and complete sample questions to assess your areas of strength and weakness. These sample questions reflect the nature of the questions featured on the actual Accuplacer test and will help you gain a deeper understand of what is expected of you. Use a current SAT or ACT preparation test to study the areas in which you need most help.

    Review

    • Review basic grammar, sentence structure, reading comprehension, algebra, arithmetic and trigonometry. Ask a friend or family member to review these concepts with you for several weeks or months before you are assigned to take your test.

    Rest

    • Get a good night's sleep the night before you take the test, and eat a nutritious meal prior to taking the test. Being well rested and satiated can help you keep your focus during the test and will help you perform at your highest level.

    During the Test

    • Read the directions for each section thoroughly before beginning the test. This will ensure that you understand what is asked of you and how to complete the task successfully. If you are unsure of an answer during the test, use the elimination method to help yourself determine which answer is right.
