Include your personal philosophy. If you're applying to the university's history program, talk about why you feel history is essential to the understanding of society. For example, mention that without a proper understanding of oppressed minorities in the past, the country will not be able to move forward and progress toward social justice.
Start with an interesting story that relates to the essay. Open the essay with the story of how you used to work at your grandparents' mentoring agency while in high school and how, as a child, you used to go with your grandparents on educational field trips to political rallies, art museums and college open houses. Write about how this inspired you to pursue a life of service in your adult life.
Mention any major achievements. Discuss special awards you earned during middle or high school, or any clubs you started. If you're applying to a university business administration program, discuss your involvement in starting a student-run snack shop with the help of some teachers and local sponsors.
