Step-by-Step Operations for an HP 50G

The Hewlett Packard 50g graphing calculator provides advanced mathematical tools for users. It has nearly 50 buttons and a large display. The display contains a lower menu of "soft" buttons that correspond to each F key and will change uses depending on the current environment. The calculator can process variable math, solve equations, compute vectors and matrices, plot 2D and 3D functions, solve calculus and differential equations and compute probability distributions. It also has the capability of reading and writing information to a secure digital (SD) flash card.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "ON" button to turn the power on.

    • 2

Press either of the shift buttons --- the two buttons on the lower left with the left-turn and right-turn arrows --- to access the alternate functions of the buttons. The alternate functions are listed above each button. The left arrow, or left-shift button, will access the function in the upper left and the right-shift button will use the function in the upper right. For example, pressing the right-shift button before the "ON" button will use the "OFF" function and turn the power off.

    • 3

Press F1 through F6 to access the menus. In the default menu, F1 edits variables, F2 views the contents of a variable, F3 recalls the data in a variable, F4 holds the data in a variable in memory, F5 removes a variable and F6 clears the display.

    • 4

Press the number and operatory buttons --- "+," "-," "x," "÷," "(and)" --- to add the digits to the display. Press the "ENTER" button to process the calculation in mathematical order of operations.

    • 5

Press the left-shift button followed by the "Y=" button to enter the PLOT menu. Press the "ADD" button to enter the equation writer. Fill in the right side of an equation and press "ENTER" to plot the function on a Cartesian coordinate system.
