Students in Louisiana State University's educational technology doctoral program accrue knowledge in three areas---conceptual, practical and empirical. The conceptual area focuses on cognitive theories and instructional design models, according to the school's website. Practical study allows students to participate in service learning projects and internships related to their specialized field of study. Students can gain empirical knowledge of educational technology by participating in research projects. Sample courses include Traditions of Inquiry in Education, Technology in Education Leadership and Theory and Research in Educational Technology. Students in the program choose an area of specialization, such as distributed learning, instructional design and development or professional development and leadership.
